As a member of Gen X, I grew up without computers, smartphones, or the internet. Computers didn’t enter my life until high school, and I’ve had a front-row seat as technology transformed the world throughout my adult life.
In the early days of the internet, I embraced it. I was optimistic about its potential and excited about what it could become. I studied computer programming in college, jumped into the tech field with enthusiasm, and spent over 30 years working in the industry.
But as technology became more invasive, my perspective changed. Social media became something I no longer enjoyed. Slowly, I started pulling back and spending less time online, eventually leaving the big social platforms entirely.
Now, when I have something I want to share, I post it here on my blog. It’s my home on the IndieWeb, a quiet, calm space without all the digital noise. It’s a throwback to the early web I loved: no ads, no algorithms, no distractions.
