Blue Ridge Mountains

Sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mountains. This was taken from the back porch of the cabin we rented to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. It’s a beautiful area, and we’ll definitely visit again.

We packed a lot into the three-day weekend, including a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. The trip begins at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge and follows a scenic 26-mile round trip along the Toccoa River, passing through McCaysville and Copperhill before returning to the depot.

We also ate dinner at The General Ledger in downtown Blue Ridge. The restaurant is set inside a historic bank building, and you can even be seated in the old vault, which gives the whole place a unique atmosphere.

I tried one of their signature dishes, the blackened pork chop with bacon apple chutney and mashed potatoes. It was easily my favorite meal of the trip.

On the way home, we stopped by Mercier Orchards, a highly rated, family-owned 300-acre farm known for its “U-Pick” apple experience, bakery, and market. We bought some fresh apples, honey, and apple cider to bring back for our friends.
